April – seeds are in.

pumpkin seed being potted

Our pumpkin seeds are in. We potted these towards the end of March. They’ll live in the greenhouse until they are big enough to be planted out. We have Thirty five in total including the seedlings at the front. Full disclosure, the four at the front we bought whilst at the garden centre last week. Couldn’t resist

pumpkin patch needing work

This is going to be out pumpkin patch. As you can see it need a bit of work. So over the next couple of weeks we’ll clear it, dig it over and give it a good weeding. In the past twelve plants have filled this patch so it exciting to see how many we can get this time.

Mid-Month Update

Pumpkin seeds are starting to come through. It turns out we have a few more than we realised! Not sure what we are going to do with them all.

We’ll dig the patch over in the next week or so.

May – Seeds are doing nicely and the patch is cleared.

As you can see the pumpkin seeds are doing very nicely. Plants are a good size and looking healthy. They will need to go in the ground within the next week or so. Which means…

Time to clear the pumpkin patch. We thought we would get this done over the hottest week of the year so far. Because why wouldn’t you! After lot’s of weeding and digging we then put some chicken pellets down. We’ll let them absorb into the ground for a couple of days then plant out the seedlings.

So it turns out we have a helper/supervisor. This little guy was keeping an eye on us making sure there was no short cuts! The reward for all of his hard work…an easy meal of course.
